After a long car ride the day before (December 5), we arrived in the early evening at Rohetgarh, a former fortress still occupied by descendants of original ruling family.  Like many such palaces, it now serves too as a luxury hotel.  Once again, we ended up in a gargantuan suite having so many light switches in the room that it took us most of our two day stay to fully figure out how to turn the room lights on and off.  In the evening, the hotel put on shows in the courtyard--one evening it was magic and on the other it was music.  Most guests were either British or French.

The jeep safari the first morning was extremely interesting (see the slideshow), showing us a side of India we did not see elsewhere.

Finally, we found Jodhpur to be a charming and sophisticated city.  Our guide was excellent and seemed knowledgeable on a variety of subjects ranging from history to religion to women's designer fashions.  The bazaar at Jodhpur was the best we experienced in India.
