The Grand Bazaar (#s 41-42) contains over 5,000 shops in a labyrinth of streets covered by vaulted ceilings.  It would be easy to get lost here and not find your way out for several days.  Common goods sold in the bazaar include carpets, leather products and jewelry.

Our last tour stop was at the Church of St. Savior in Chora (44-50).  "In Chora" means "in the country" and it was thought the church once sat in a rural setting although this is no longer true.  The church dates from the eleventh century, BC but in the fourteenth century, an extraordinary collection of mosaics was added showing the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary and other religious scenes.  After the mosaics were completed, a series of frescoes were added.  #51-52 were taken from the ship as we sailed down the Bosphorus past the Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque into the Sea of Marmara on our way to Egypt.
