Probably one of the great port arrivals in the world is as a cruise ship comes into Venice--#s 299-311 were taken from the top deck early in the morning as we arrived in Venice.  #s 299-301 show the Piazza San Marco with St. Mark's Basilica, the Campanile tower and the Doge's Palace.  #302 shows the church, Santa Maria della Salute .  As one looks at the photo, the Grand Canal is on the right while the Giudecca Canal is on the left.  Across the Grand Canal from that point is the Piazza San Marco.  Cruise ships must use the much wider Guidecca Canal from that point to go to their docking berth.  Photos on that canal are shown at 306 and 308-311.  Shortly after docking, we boarded a boat for an all-day tour of two of Venice's most famous islands, Burano and Murano, in the Venetian Lagoon.  Burano shown in #s 312-316 is famous for its lace (313) and, in the 16th century, it was thought to make the finest lace in Europe.  Today, it is a small fishing village with multi-colored houses, similar to those one sees in parts of Cape Town and certain Caribbean islands. The main street (314) was full of shops selling lace products of all descriptions. In late morning, we reboarded the boat and headed off to Murano, passing by the boarded-up former home of Casanova (317).

We docked near the site in #320 at Murano and headed for lunch.  As we did so, we noticed an elegant boat at a pharmacy-type establishment that was handling a catered affair at the shop, launching some new product.  The catering ship and the adjacent dock served as the restaurant for what looked like a very nice lunch for the assembled guests.
