Rapid City's historic district is very charming and surprisingly upscale for a city of 60,000 persons. Due to the proximity of Mt. Rushmore, Rapid City is known as the City of Presidents. On each street corner in the historic district there are statues of presidents who are not on Mt. Rushmore--a nice touch.
