This was a fast paced day with two different tours scheduled--one of the city and another to the Great Salt Lake. Salt Lake City is an impressive place with very modern buildings, excellent preservation of key historical buildings in the downtown, very wide streets, friendly people and an ultra-clean city.
Mormonism dominates the city and there was much discussion by the guide about the Mormon faith. Most interesting was his explanation of polygamy which today is outlawed. He said that even in its heyday, only about five percent of the Mormons practiced polygamy since it had to be acceptable to all the parties involved (husband and wives) and also approved by the church. He indicated that Mormons still consider polygamy as a correct code of behavior but that current law prohibits them from engaging in the practice in this life.
