As sunset came on the Zambezi on our second day in Victoria Falls, we saw both elephants and hippos during the twilight. Hot air balloons also leave from the town and are supposed to give a spectacular view of the Falls.
Back at the Victoria Falls Hotel the next morning, we took some parting photos. Our room was off the courtyard at the top. Some guests said they had been awakened that morning by monkeys on the roof and a few of them on the grounds later posed for our camera. The trolley car formerly carried passengers from the hotel to the Falls since guests said the journey was too difficult by foot. The hotel had first class facilities, great service, tremendous history and outstanding food.
The Victoria Falls Railway station next to the hotel. This station, the hotel and the bridge were all part of Cecil Rhode's dream of colonizing Africa from Cape Town to Cairo. However, Rhodes never visited Victoria Falls and died in 1902, two years before the opening of the hotel.
